Human-Centered, Earth-Centered Culture

by Ilchi Lee

Ilchi Lee says, Humankind has collectively dreamed of a peaceful world from time immemorial. Regardless of nationality, creed, ethnicity, or religious affiliation, peace is a concept that is familiar to all of us. Perhaps this is because it has been our hope for such a long time. Pliticians, religious leaders and beauty contestants alike, declare peace to be the most important mission in life. Many people profess a desire for peace and many people work for peace. In the midst of war, national leaders declare that the reason for war is peace, an exercise in logical circumlocution so familiar to us that we no longer see its outrageous, inherent hypocrisy.

The Cold War divided the world into two camps in the latter half of the twentieth century. This was ostensibly about which system would create a more fair and equitable state of peaceful living. However, this only resulted in a constant threat of annihilation. Although the Cold War may be over, the world still suffers war and countless conflicts that continue to inflict deep pain on the psyche of humanity.

Undeniably, organized religion and politics remain prominent sources of conflict. Despite theology and ideology to the contrary, religious and political differences have been the mainstay of human conflict for many centuries now. Humanity has approached peace through such diverse fields as science, philosophy, politics, economics, social studies and medicine. Yet, the true nature of peace and a solution to war remains as elusive to us as it has throughout the writeen history of humankind.

Perhaps the flaw is in the delegation of responsibility for peace to political and religious leaders. Perhaps instead, we need to develop a relationship between peace and individual human beings. Perhaps it is we, ourselves, who must ultimately become the actors in the drama of the creation of peace on earth.

At the heart of Kookhak is the spirit of the Hongik Human. It's people all over the world having the spirit of the Hongik Human and having the consciousness of the Earth Human. We are not doing this for the sake of Korea alone, nor for the sake of Koreans alone.

Through the evolution of human consciousness, we seek to truly realize love for humanity and love for the Earth. When we have done that, our souls will be complete.

We cannot become true Earth Humans if we selfishly think only of ourselves and work only for our own people. The true Earth Human is one who lives with a human -centered, Earth - centered spirit. Now, such a cultural movement will come into full bloom.

The environment of the Earth is, in fact, in crisis. No one worries about the Earth or worries about humanity. In their religious and nationalistic partisanship, they seek to dominate each other and to possess.

Within your brains are to be found a truly great philosophy and spirit, and information. And that's why a person's value is proportional to the quality and quantity of his or her information. It's difficult to make it alone. But we can do great things if we combine our strength. We must gather our strength and do something truly great for the Earth and for humanity.
